Cobria, Tradify, ServiceM8, Fergus, Powered Now or Vertuoza? A profile-by-profile comparison of quote and invoice software for small construction firms, with prices checked in September 2026.
Which one should you pick?
There is no single best quote and invoice software. The right pick depends on the size of your team, your country and your budget. To start without paying: Cobria or ServiceM8's free plan. For UK sole traders who need Making Tax Digital: Powered Now. For a trades team that wants a wide feature set: Tradify or Fergus. For a full ERP in Belgium: Vertuoza.
The right quote and invoice software for your building or trades business depends mostly on how big it is and what you can spend, not on a generic ranking. These are the tools that come up most often for small construction and trades firms in English-speaking markets, grouped by profile so you can spot in a few minutes which one fits.
Five things matter when you choose: whether a free plan exists, how easy it is for a small team to get started, whether it fits your country's tax rules (Peppol in Belgium, Making Tax Digital in the UK), how quotes turn into invoices, and the real entry cost per user.
Who it is for: sole traders and small teams (1 to 25 people) in Belgium or working in several languages.
Strengths: a free plan with no time limit, Peppol e-invoicing, automatic translation of quotes and invoices (French, Dutch, English, Romanian, Greek), and voice-to-quote with Max, its AI assistant.
Limits: the free plan is capped (1 user, about 2 quotes or 5 invoices a day). Built for Belgium and the euro zone: prices are in euros, and we do not list UK-specific tax features such as Making Tax Digital.
Price: from €0 to €89.90 per user per month, excluding VAT (Solo, Essential, Pro, Ultimate).
A roofer or electrician working alone can open an account and send a first quote the same day, with no heavy set-up. Once a second person joins or you go past the daily allowance, you need a paid plan. Example: a roofer sending 3 quotes a week stays well within the free daily allowance. When they hire someone, Essential (€24.90 per month) becomes necessary.
Who it is for: trades businesses (electricians, plumbers, builders) that want quoting, scheduling and invoicing in one app.
Strengths: quotes and invoices on every plan, online and card payments, and integration with Xero, Sage and QuickBooks Online. The top plan adds AI writing and bulk invoicing.
Limits: no free plan, priced per user, so a team's bill grows quickly. Quote options with online acceptance and progress invoicing start on the middle plan.
Price: in the UK, £34, £37 or £44 per user per month (Lite, Pro, Plus). US prices are $47, $51 and $61. 14-day free trial with all features. Checked on tradifyhq.com on 29 September 2026.
Tradify is a good fit if you already run a small crew and want everything in a single tool, and you are happy to pay per person.
Who it is for: service and trades businesses that think in jobs rather than projects.
Strengths: a free plan (1 user, 30 jobs a month), unlimited users on paid plans, and quoting, scheduling, invoicing and mobile payments on all plans.
Limits: plans are capped by the number of jobs per month (50 on Starter, 150 on Growing, 500 on Premium), so a busy firm moves up a tier quickly. Prices below are shown in US dollars.
Price: $0, $29, $79 and $149 per month for Free, Starter, Growing and Premium. 14-day free trial. Checked on servicem8.com on 29 September 2026.
Because paid plans have no per-user fee, ServiceM8 can work out cheaper than per-user tools for a team of several people who do a moderate number of jobs.
Who it is for: electricians, plumbers, builders and other trades that quote and invoice job by job, in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and the US.
Strengths: professional quoting and estimating, invoicing, price books, and on the Professional plan GPS tracking, job phases, purchase orders and health and safety tools. No lock-in contract.
Limits: no free plan. UK prices are listed as "from" amounts, with add-ons on top (timesheet users, SMS alerts, card payment fees).
Price: in the UK, from £39 per month (Essentials) and from £45 per month (Professional). 14-day free trial, no card needed. VAT treatment is not stated on the page. Checked on fergus.com on 29 September 2026.
Who it is for: UK sole traders and small firms that need to stay compliant with Making Tax Digital.
Strengths: quotes, invoices with payment links, job management, offline working and Making Tax Digital on every plan. UK-based support.
Limits: UK only, no free plan. The single-user plan does not include team features.
Price: £28 per month for one user (Business), £32 per user (Professional) or £40 per user (Premium), excluding VAT. 14-day free trial, no card. Checked on the vendor's pricing page on 29 September 2026.
Who it is for: larger teams in Belgium that need a full ERP (stock, advanced planning, accounting).
Strengths: VertuoAI, which builds a quote from your voice in about 45 seconds, and four modular tiers. Details checked on 24 September 2026.
Limits: no published price list, no free plan, no free trial according to Capterra reviewers, and training and set-up are needed to get started. The vendor's site is in French and Dutch.
Price: on quote only. Capterra shows a starting price of about €1,490 per year, with a 3.7 out of 5 rating from 23 reviews (checked on 29 September 2026). Reviewers mention an annual payment up front, so confirm the terms before you sign.
Jobber, Buildxact and Houzz Pro are also common names in English-language searches. Jobber is aimed at field service businesses and prices in US dollars. We did not check the prices or features of these three ourselves for this comparison, so we do not detail them. They are worth a look if none of the six above fits.
Three questions are usually enough. Which country do you invoice in, and does the tool handle its tax rules (Peppol in Belgium, Making Tax Digital in the UK)? How many people will use it from day one, and do you want to pay per user or per job? And when will your volume outgrow a free or entry-level plan? With those three answers, the choice usually comes down to one or two options in the table below.
This comparison is built from each vendor's public pricing page (Cobria, Tradify, ServiceM8, Fergus and Powered Now, all checked on 29 September 2026) and from Capterra for Vertuoza. Prices depend on the country page you see, so the currency shown is the one we read. We did not test the software ourselves and we did not verify Jobber, Buildxact or Houzz Pro. This page is published by Cobria, one of the tools compared.
Primary source
Yes. Cobria has a free plan with no time limit, and ServiceM8 has a free plan for one user and up to 30 jobs a month. Most of the other tools listed here offer a free trial of 14 days instead.
A free or entry-level plan is enough to start: Cobria or ServiceM8's free plan, or Powered Now's £28 plan in the UK. A full ERP would leave most of its modules unused.
Quote software covers quotes and invoices. An ERP such as Vertuoza's top tier adds stock, advanced planning and built-in accounting, for a higher budget and more complexity.
General invoicing software can cover everyday billing, but it will not handle job scheduling, site visits or crews. For daily construction work, a tool built for trades is usually a better fit.
Use the free plans and trials: Cobria and ServiceM8 have free plans, and Tradify, Fergus and Powered Now offer 14-day trials. Create a few real quotes in each to see which one fits how you work before you pay.
Compare the Cobria plans and pick the one that matches how you work.
